WheelHouse is now fully stocked with some of the most durable, stylish, and practical (on the bike and off) shoes on the market. The shoes are made by Chrome, the folks who gave you the iconic seatbelt messenger bag, so you know they are built tough. We have two different models in stock, the Midway and Arnhem. The Midway comes with a cordura upper in Brown and Black and the Arnhem is more “chukka” style with a black suede upper. Both boast a re-inforced fiber glass shank midsole, a low-profile design so they can fit in your toe straps, and metal lace ends so you don’t fray your shoelaces. Come down and grab a pair, they all go for $90…. might be the best $90 shoe you ever buy.

2 weeks ago WheelHouse received a giant present in the form of a 40 fott container and dozens of beautiful Workcycles Dutch bikes. These Dutch bikes are handbuilt in Holland by Azor and distributed to us by Workcycles. They are all high-tensiled steel frames that offer and amazingly upright riding position. They are also fully-equipped with a rack, fenders, skirt/coats guards, full enclosed chaincase, and front and rear lights that are p[owered by the 6v 2.4 w front hub. The ride buttery smooth and are designed to last a lifetime. Ride ‘em in your weekend beach wear or in your business suits, they won’t mess up your slacks or skirt. Along with the standard Omafiets and Opafiets, we are proud to introduce the Henry Cutler designed FR8, a bike that gives you the wonderful ride feel of a city bike with enough carrying capacity for you, the kids, and a boat load of groceries. Come on in a take one for a spin, they won’t dissapoint.

Most of the folks that roll through the shop have never seen a box bike before. This is why we encourage people who are curious to take one for a spin around our parking lot. There is definitely a learning curve for most folks when they start charging forward, but once people get the hang of it, it’s all smiles. So next time you are in the shop, give in to that curiosity and take a Bakfiets for a spin.

“Keep ‘er upfront, I’ll only be a minute”….. Ever since we opened in May 2009 we’ve been offering free bike valet for Saturday morning farmer’s market patrons. We’ve parked as many as 50 bikes in a day and have come across some beauties. Below is a gallery of some of the coolest, jaw-dropping, silly, and inspiring bikes. As always, we start valeting bikes for the Saturday morning farmer’s markets at 8:30 am. If you ride a bike to the market, come say hi!

Broncks
As we starting gearing up for Spring, we decided to do some early cleaning. So, our entire Bowery Lane city bike rental fleet will be on sale until they are gone! Normally we sell the Brueklen and Broncks at a retail price of $650 (they go for $695 online), but our lightly used fleet will be going for $450! Thats over 30% off our list price! These are American made street machines with classic Euro styling, both the rear wooden boxes, Lepper sprung leather saddle, and cork grips are stained for a vintage look and to increase longevity. The single-speed drive train and upright riding style are great for city cycling, beach cruising, and campus jaunts. The frames are built in Brooklyn, NY and all the trim and accessory pieces are manufactured by Wald, meaning this bike was fully built in the USA. We have 3 Brueklens (step-through) and 3 Broncks (diamond-style) left. They are one size fits most. To peep out the specs, check out Bowery Lane Bicycles. Enjoy your ride.

With 2009 behind us and a fresh and exciting 2010 coming up, WheelHouse has decided to do a twist on the “Cash for Clunkers” program to encourage more people to get out of their cars and on their bikes. We are excited to introduce our 1st annual “Bikes for Bucks” program.
So, take that beaten up clunker out of your garage or grab your old everyday rider and bring it down to WheelHouse between January 29th-31st and trade it in for deep discounts on some of the best city, commuting, and cargo carrying bikes in around.
- But what will you bike guys do with all those used bikes?
- The bikes being traded in will go to the local community bicycle shop, Bici Centro. We will take all kinds of repairable* bikes but priority will be on bikes of the road and kids variety. Each person is allowed to trade in as many bikes as they want, but only 1 will be awarded credit towards the purchase of a new bike. Here’s how it goes:
The trade-in credit will be worth $50 off any bicycle we sell under $1000 (excludes Skuuts), this is $50 off the last marked price which means you can get a killer deal on already marked down bikes.
The trade credit will be worth $100 on any bicycle we sell over $1000 including specially ordered Surly or Jamis bikes.
The trade will also work with our Xtracycle products and Bakfiets cargo bikes. You can apply a $50 credit towards an Xtracycle Freeradical Conversion kit and receive 10% off the installation fee, you can also special order a complete Big Dummy and receive 10% off its purchase price (a $245 value). The credit will also get you $150 off our entire selection of Bakfiets cargo bikes.
But what if I have a bike to trade-in but don’t want to purchase a new bike right away?
All bicycles accepted for trade-in will be awarded a Bikes for Bucks certificate that will be redeemable on new bikes for the remainder of 2010**. Again, you are welcome to trade-in as many bikes as you would like but only 1 trade-in credit will be given per person and only 1 trade-in credit can be redeemed per purchase. If you have more questions, feel free to contact WheelHouse at 805-845-6547 or e-mail us at info@wheelhousebikes.com.
*Repairable bike: A repairable bike is defined as: A bicycle that needs less than $50 dollars worth of material to make into a rideable and sellable used bike. The decision on whether or not a bike is “repairable” will be made by a representative of WheelHouse, and while we are subjective in nature, we’ll strive to be as objective as possible. Priority will be placed on bikes that are needed by Bici Centro but all will be considered.
**The trade-in credit will be redeemable on any bicycle WheelHouse sells (including special orders) through February 2010. After February through the remainder of 2010, the credit can be redeemed for any sale bicycle.

On Wednesday, June 24th, we at WheelHouse were honored with the presence of the Santa Barbara Burger Bus. If you haven’t heard, the Burger Bus is a rolling slice of heaven. They use local ingredients from folks like Shalhoobs (www.shalhoobs.com) and Our Daily Bread (www.ourdailybread.net) and create culinary works of art like the CBs and J, cheeseburgers and jelly. Check out their website,www.theburgerbus.com. They will be here at WheelHouse again this Wednesday and hopefully for many Wednesdays to come. Stop on by, eat a burger on the WheelHouse patio, ride a bike, and enjoy yourself.
